Dr. Hiroko Terasaki, Professor at Nagoya University Institutes of Innovation for Future Society since 2020, was previously professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine from 1999-2005, then chairman since 2005, and has been actively involved in both research and clinical work throughout. She was the first female chairman in Nagoya University School of Medicine since it was established more than 100 years ago. She finished the medical fellowship of Harvard Medical School for the management of retina and vitreous diseases in 1997. She is the immediate past president of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, the first lady president in more than 120 years of JOS history.<\/p>\n
Dr. Terasaki is specialized as a vitreo-retinal surgeon and performs hundreds of surgeries yearly including retinopathy of prematurity. She has been working also on ERG and imaging modality such as focal ERG and adaptive optics, and conducting translational research in retinal degeneration for more than 30 years. She has published more than 300 English peer-reviewed articles and many book chapters in mostly vitreo-retinal fields. Due to this significant contribution towards the advancement of Ophthalmology, she has received a JOS Award and a JRVS Mori Award. She has been a member of Club Jules Gonin for more than 15 years, as well as a Member of Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis and a Fellow of the Academia of Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology. As a retina specialist, she has been a Council member of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retinal Society for 20 years.<\/p>\n
