Speaker Biography
Dr. Maximilian Pfau, Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology, Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Pfau received his medical degree and doctorate from Heidelberg University in 2015 and has pursued a career in ophthalmology, combining clinical work with continued research activities at the Department of Ophthalmology in Bonn, Germany, under the chair of Prof. Frank G. Holz. His education has been supplemented with international research fellowships at Doheny Eye Institute, Stanford University and the National Eye Institute in the United States of America.
Dr. Pfau has published close to 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, many of them with high impact factors, achieving an H-index of 24, with a focus on prospective studies of retinal imaging and functional testing, particularly in degenerative retinal diseases. He is the head of an innovative research lab (Pfau Group) in Basel with a coherent focus on disease mechanisms in inherited retinal degenerations and age-related macular degeneration as well as an interest in the application of artificial intelligence. Additionally, Dr. Pfau has contributed with scientific talks at international conferences, including at the preparatory YOURS/Euretina course for the new FEBO Retina exam.
