Introduction

The Euretina Special Focus Meeting on Ocular Endotamponades and Onco VR is aimed at both established vitreo retinal surgeons and trainees. The full day programme will provide a comprehensive overview of the risks, benefits and uses of Endotamponade agents, from the fundamentals to the latest developments and innovations.

VR surgeons use Endotamponades on a day-to-day basis yet often don’t understand many of the important biophysical properties and risks of the agents. This meeting aims to cover ‘everything you need to know but were afraid to ask’, and there are many important current issues and questions that we hope to cover.

The EU is considering a ban or restriction on the use of many of the chemicals upon which our Endotamponade agents are based so we need to consider alternatives and/or reduced use of many agents. Sf6 is the most potent greenhouse gas and we know that oil can cause vision loss and retinal problems due to toxicity. We also have a range of agents available, and the day will include evidence-based discussion on a range of subjects such as should/can we use air rather than gas and whether heavy oil is better than standard lighter than water oil.

The programme also features a dedicated Vitreoretinal Oncology session, covering biopsy techniques and endo-resection procedures.

The meeting will conclude with a RETINAWS video case session, offering a unique opportunity for case-based discussions and expert insights.

In summary, this focus meeting offers a unique opportunity for a complete overview and update on this important aspect of Vitreoretinal Surgery.
